Have you ever felt like your life is like a run-on sentence? We fill each day with so many activities and appointments that we don’t notice when we should pause before we move on. How often do we recognize what is going on around us if it is not on our to do list?
This year I have been on a journey of learning how to be more intentional with my moments. God has been showing me how He is always working and orchestrating things “behind the scenes.” In our everyday moments God can use us to minister to those with whom we come into contact. Are we too hurried to notice when God brings someone across our paths who need Him?
“Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2 (HCSB)
Recently I had a friend ask me if I had time to meet with her and another lady who could use some encouragement. We talked a few times about getting together but I had been so busy that I declined or rescheduled. The text she sent me hit me like a ton of bricks. She said “I know you are busy but will you please pray about meeting with her.” Just those few words opened my eyes to just how “busy” I’d been. In the process of working and homeschooling our kids, I have struggled with finding a routine, but I manage to find time for things that are important to me. The problem was that I was “too busy” doing nothing. My priorities were all about me. I like to start my days slow with a cup of coffee, my quiet time, and a little (or way too much) Facebook. I was trying to protect my laziness.
I was missing the opportunity to connect with others because I was “too busy” with how I was choosing to fill my day. I need to submit my days to the Lord. I find if I start my day in His word I tend to be more aware of Him working around me. My days go smoother and time seems to multiply.
My challenge to you is to be sure that your day is filled with how God wants you to be spending your time. Are you so busy doing “stuff” that you miss out on the people God is bringing across your path who may need a touch of Him?
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3(NIV)
Place each activity and opportunity before the Lord. Is it something that brings Him glory? Is it something that will help further His kingdom and encourage others? Is it something that will cause stress and make you unavailable to see the opportunities God is bringing across your path to share His love with others?
How can you purpose your days better to not have a Run-on life?
